Nine-Year-Old Boy Dies in Hit-and-Run Accident in St. Louis Metro Area

A young boy has died following a hit-and-run accident that occurred the afternoon of Thursday, July 11. Details of the fatal St. Clair County bicycle accident are as follows:

A 9-year-old boy died two days after a car hit him while he was riding his bicycle in an unincorporated part of St. Clair County on July 11.

The St. Clair County Sheriff's Department is still looking for information on the hit-and-run driver who struck the boy and then fled the scene.

According to police, young Fabian Teson was riding his bicycle along the 2400 block of Lorraine Drive in Cahokia, Illinois, around 12:30 in the afternoon when he was struck. Witnesses at the scene of the accident said that the boy was not moving and that his leg appeared to have been shattered in the accident.

He was taken to SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center in St. Louis, where he was listed in critical condition for two days before succumbing to his injuries on Saturday, July 13.

Little information is available on the vehicle that hit him. Some witnesses described the vehicle as possibly a late 1990s model Pontiac Grand Am or Grand Prix, while others thought it might have been a Chevrolet Malibu. The vehicle was either gray or silver, say witnesses. The driver is described only as a black male who was wearing a white t-shirt at the time of the accident.

It is unclear what caused the driver to lose control, how fast he was going, or how exactly the accident occurred. Anyone who has information regarding the accident or the possible hit-and-run driver is asked to call the sheriff's detectives at 618-277-3504, extension 5309.

We express our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of little Fabian.
