Somebody needs to get on the Board of Registration for the Healing Arts disciplinary committee with the motivation to clean up the system of physician discipline ("Amid opioid crisis, action lacking in Missouri against doctors who may overprescribe," Jan. 26).
A lawyer can steal a dollar and lose his license to practice law. A doctor can kill somebody, and everybody looks the other way. The contrast is appalling. While stealing money is bad, killing somebody is worse.
The penalties for each need to be reassessed. The rules are in place for proper enforcement in each of the professions. All we need is somebody with the guts to enforce the rules that we already have to clean up this mess.
