Head-On Collision Kills Three in St. Louis

A head-on collision that occurred on Friday, February 1, left three people dead in Ladue, Missouri. The two-car auto accident occurred just before 9 p.m., according to the Ladue Police Department.

A preliminary investigation into the Missouri car accident shows that 25-year-old Kyle Weeks was traveling westbound on Ladue Road in his 2007 Ford Focus. It appears that he attempted to pass a vehicle in front of him in the middle of a no passing zone near Gouverneur Lane.

When Weeks, a resident of Olivette, crossed the center line, he crashed head on into a 2004 Volkswagen Jetta that was traveling eastbound on the road. The driver of the Jetta has been identified as 46-year-old Melanie Michailidis.

Both Weeks and Michailidis were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Michailidis' front seat passenger was her boyfriend, 41-year-old Joseph Jacob. Jacob died a short while later at a local hospital.

It is not yet known whether any of the three involved in the crash were wearing seat belts, or if speeding or alcohol contributed to the cause of the crash.

Fire emergency crews from Ladue and Crestwood also responded to the scene of the accident. Police shut down Ladue Road for seven hours following the crash. An investigation is ongoing.

Michailidis was a resident of St. Louis. She had a doctorate degree and taught Islamic art at Washington University. Jacob hailed from San Francisco, California, and was in town for the weekend to celebrate his birthday with Michailidis.

We offer our condolences to the families affected by this tragic accident.
