A metro police officer sustained multiple injuries in a St. Louis car accident the evening of March 21. The male police officer, who has not been identified, was headed to work the overnight shift when the accident occurred around 11 p.m.

The driver of a Toyota 4Runner apparently failed to yield right of way to the off-duty police officer at the intersection of Hampton and Milentz in the St. Louis Hills neighborhood. The car turned directly in front of the police officer's vehicle.

The officer, who has been with the police force since 1993, suffered a concussion and a broken leg from the impact of the accident. He was rushed to Barnes Jewish Hospital, where he was initially listed in critical condition but is now considered stable.

The at-fault driver suffered hand injuries but refused treatment. The driver was ticketed at the scene for failing to yield the right of way.

Driver charged in fatal St. Louis accident

The driver who caused a fatal accident in North St. Louis on March 14 has been identified as 41-year-old Robert White.

The Metropolitan Police Department declined to identify White before charges were made. Now White has been formally charged with first degree manslaughter, second degree assault (two counts) and armed criminal action.

White was responsible for the crash that killed 53-year-old Marcus Dorsey and seriously injured his two passengers. White was fleeing a minor hit-and-run accident with a city vehicle when his SUV sped through a stop sign at the intersection of Branch Street and North Broadway, crashing into Dorsey's Pontiac Bonneville.
